tending our grief
mothers, in every way you have come to mothering, are invited into a weekend of communal grief work that is at once ancient, emergent, and future-facing. together we become a “sudden village,” a temporary community gathered to tend five gates of grief: the loss of what we love, the places in us that have not known love, the sorrows of the world, what we expected and did not receive, and the grief we carry from our ancestors. we also turn toward a sixth gate, the harm we ourselves have caused, as named by rachel rice and holly truhar.
through writing, song, movement, poetry, and sharing circles, held with care, honesty, and tenderness, we prepare together for a closing group ritual.
sorrow that goes unspoken can harden the heart and leave us swinging between overwhelm and numbness. grief asks for a container and for witnesses in order to move through us. this weekend aspires to break our hearts open, widen our belonging to all of life, and let our tears become medicine.
this ritual is part of holy mama work: mothers collaborating to grow small pockets of living culture.
